What is a Merchant Category Code (MCC), and why is it required to activate payments?

A Merchant Category Code, or MCC for short, is a four-digit number that is used to identify the types of services your company provides. In the case of contractors, this code is used to verify you as a business, and background security checks are performed to mitigate risk by the payment processor. When it comes down to it, you’ll be moving large amounts of money through our platform, and the payments system needs to be implemented securely.

MCC Codes by Business Type:

  • Fencing - Code 1520

  • Foundation - Code 1520

  • Waterproofing - Code 1520

  • Gutters - Code 1761

  • Pest Control - Code 7342

  • Turf - Code 0780

If you are unable to find your specific code on this list, you may use “Code 1520 - General Contractors Residential/Commercial”. This code tends to cover most industries that are not explicitly listed above.
