How to Draw, Measure, and place Products in Your Drawing with AR

Use AR to measure spaces and place Linear and Area Products directly into your ArcSite drawing โ€” no tape measure required.

Updated yesterday

Overview

AR features lets you use your phone to measure spaces and place Linear and Area Products directly into your ArcSite drawing. Instead of drawing lines and areas manually after taking tape measure readings, you trace the space in the real world and the product is placed automatically with accurate dimensions.

Availability

  • Supported Platforms: Apple Pro devices with LiDAR sensor (iPhone Pro, iPad Pro). Not available on standard iPhones, iPads, or Android devices.

  • Subscription Requirement:

    • AR Draw Lines: Draw Basic and above

    • AR Measure Area: Draw Basic and above

    • Location Based Photos: Draw Pro and above

    • AR Place Linear and Area Products: Takeoff and Estimate plans

Who Is This For?

Field contractors doing fence, turf, concrete, or other outdoor material takeoffs where placing Area and Linear Products manually is a high-friction step. This feature lets you complete a drawing with quantities on site, without returning to the office to finalize measurements.

How to Place Products with AR

Goal: Measure a space in the real world and place a product into your drawing with accurate dimensions.

  1. Open a drawing in ArcSite. Access AR Measure Products from any of the three entry points: the Product tool, the Draw tool, or the Measure tool. Each entry point exposes AR as an insertion method alongside the standard options.

  2. Point your device at the surface you want to measure. If ArcSite cannot automatically determine whether you are measuring a vertical or horizontal surface, a Plane Selection prompt will appear. Select the correct surface type โ€” choose Horizontal Surface for ground-level areas like turf, concrete, or patio, or Vertical Surface for wall or fence-run measurements. Selecting the right plane is important: an incorrect selection will result in inaccurate dimensions.

  3. Tap to add points along the boundary of the space you are measuring. For a linear product, trace the run. For an area product, trace the perimeter of the space.

  4. When you have completed the boundary, tap to close the path.

  5. Tap Finish to confirm. The product is placed in your drawing with dimensions calculated from the AR measurement.

  6. To capture a reference photo of the real-world space, use the Location Based Photo option within the AR view. The photo attaches to the drawing canvas at the measured location. (Requires Draw Pro or above.)

FAQs & Troubleshooting

What devices support AR Measure Products?

The feature requires an Apple Pro device with a built-in LiDAR sensor. It is not available on standard iPhones, iPads, or Android devices.

What plan do I need?

AR Draw Lines and AR Measure Area are available on Draw Basic and above. Location Based Photos require Draw Pro or above. AR Place Linear and Area Products require a Takeoff or Estimate plan.

What if the plane detection is inaccurate?

Move slowly and ensure the space is well lit. The LiDAR sensor performs best with good ambient light and unobstructed surfaces.
